Bountiful Ridge is one of the reasons why I moved to the Salt Lake City area.
I was living in San Antonio playing the Links LS golf game on the Internet with someone that lives in Bountiful, Utah.
Bountiful Ridge was my favorite course to play because of the scenery. It
wasn't long after that when I moved to Layton near Bountiful and played
Bountiful Ridge for the first time. In fact, I played the course
first thing in the morning after driving for three and a half days!
It was an incredible experience to see the beauty of this golf course
and surrounding area for the first time. It was also a pleasure to play in very
comfortable 70's weather in the middle of the summer.
Eight years later, Bountiful Ridge is still a favorite of mine. I enjoy playing in the
men's association each week and I was fortunate to be able to play in the weekly 18
hole noon game for a few months this season. There is a great men's association at
Bountiful Ridge, so if you are lucky enough to live in the area consider joining
the league if you aren't already a member.
The Course
Overall, the layout is well designed especially considering that this is a true mountain
course. Mountain courses have a tendency to have a lot of blind tee shots. This is
not the case at Bountiful Ridge. There is not a poorly designed hole on the course.
Even though Bountiful Ridge is considered a relatively short course because it is
a mountain course, it is still challenging.
The fairways are a joy to hit from. I don't know what is different about the fairways
at Bountiful Ridge, but I really love to hit an approach shot from them. The fairways
are lush and divots are very easy to make. The club goes through the grass and soil
effortlessly. There are several wedge approach shots on this course and each is a
lot of fun to play because you can get some great backspin on the ball and have fun
watching the ball spin back toward the flag.
Hazards at Bountiful Ridge consist of numerous well-maintained large sand traps, lots of
trees and bushes, some water, and the infamous Bountiful Boulevard road. The road
comes into play on #1, #10, and #13. The road on the left and trees on the right make for an
intimidating first tee shot especially for those that play a slice.
The Facilities
The clubhouse holds a pro shop, cafe, and banquet area. There is also a large deck with
awesome views of the 18th hole and surrounding area for many miles. This view is really
quite breathtaking especially to see for the first time.
The practice green is very unique and a good preview of what is in store for you on the course.
Use the practice green to get a feel for how the greens will play. The practice green is
located across the road. Take the tunnel to get to the practice green and the #10 tee.
Because Bountiful Ridge is a mountain course, there is no driving range. There is net
area for taking lessons.
